We are saddened, horrified, and angered by the Anti-Asian hate crime occurring in this country. Various news sources report that anti-Asian crime has increased by nearly 150% in major cities throughout the U.S. in 2020, and the disturbing and disgusting trend continues in 2021. As law enforcement officers, we see the reports coming in first hand. As members of the Asian American Community, we hear about the unreported incidents, know friends and family who have been victimized, and know that targeted crime against Asians is not new. This past month the NCAPOA (with the help of the East Palo Alto Police Department as our host) was able to present Jennifer as our 2021 Ronald Tsugio Tsukamoto Scholarship recipient. Jennifer has been gaining experience in the law enforcement community since she was 14-years old through the explorer programs at her local police agencies. She continued through these programs and kept on working traffic positions, parking enforcement, and even human resource management. Jennifer would assist during contacts and investigations with translations with community members. Jennifer also worked with the Mothers Against Murder organization that did outreach with victim’s families. Jennifer was working 2 jobs, supporting her family all while going to school full time towards her bachelors degree with the ultimate goal to join the police department and give back to her community. Jennifer honors the memory of Ronald Tsukamoto and the NCAPOA by overcoming her multiple challenges towards her ultimate goal in a Law Enforcement career. Please join us in congratulating Jennifer and wishing her well towards her success. She is the future of law enforcement. ...
