Message from the President
On behalf of the Executive Board and Board of Directors, I welcome you to the Northern California Asian Peace Officers Association website!
2024 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Northern California Asian Peace Officers’ Association. I hope that this year reminds us to take a minute to reflect on what our experiences would have been like working in law enforcement prior to 1974 and compare our experiences to today. I urge you to take the time to talk to someone who experienced it firsthand. What challenges did they face both personally and professionally? Have the challenges changed? What community, professional, and educational support made a difference?
Since 1980, the National Asian Peace Officers’ Association (NAPOA) has hosted our annual training symposium. As one of the three founding chapters associations, we have had the privilege of the opportunity to meet with our fellow law enforcement officers from across the nation at our annual training symposium. While we network and make new friends, I hope we all can reflect on the same questions posed above as it relates to our fellow officers across the nation. How have things changed and what has not changed?
NCAPOA’s founding president, Herbert Lee, passed away at the age of 84 in November of 2017, but the legacy of what he and the other founding members of this association started lives on through the goals of our organization*:
- A fraternal group dedicated to the interested and wellbeing of our members
- A service agency committed to assisting our ethnic communities
- To promote law enforcement as a career for youths
I take this opportunity to thank community members, our sponsors/partners, and our membership for your continued support and dedication to our association, to the community, and to the law enforcement profession.
Respectfully,
Tracie Lui
NCAPOA President
